This is just one more reason that Asheville has got to be one of the coolest cities in the world. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out in California in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from these three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.
In the spirit of TED, a local committee has planned a homegrown, independently organized one-day TEDx conference in Asheville on August 30, 2009 at the Orange Peel. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience, to call attention to ideas worth spreading. (there’s truly no shortage of those in Asheville)
At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded “TEDx,” where “x” = an independently organized TED event.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized, subject to certain rules and regulations.
