“The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” David Foster Wallace
Today I was sent back an email that I had sent out earlier this Spring. Chall Grey (of Magnetic Field and Songs of Robert acquaintance) introduced me to DFW (David Foster Wallace) early this Spring. His words have impacted my life immensely, and I’m just getting started exploring his work.
In 2005, DFW gave the commencement address at Kenyon College. He died last September in an apparent suicide, so it’s either extremely ironic or not, that his words in this address speak to the core of what we all need to know about life. I’m thankful to have been reminded to read this again and thought I’d share it.
