]]> Comment on September 11, 2001 by brayhayden http://pollinateasheville.com/2011/09/11/september-11-2001/#comment-816 Mon, 12 Sep 2011 23:44:57 +0000 http://pollinateasheville.com/?p=2730#comment-816 I was at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland – came back down from hanging over the edge there, when I heard a vendor’s radio talking about the first plane hitting – stood there and listened to what seemed like a bizarre made up radio story when the second plane hit the towers and it was announced in real time. A surreal full day of only hearing the radio on my way up to Gallway through the Burren from there, where many many impromptu cairns were created for the occasion. It was not until meeting up with a few American friends that evening in Gallway that I saw the imagery from all of the events of the day at once on TVs – bone chilling and floored me for sure. Whenever they heard my American accent, the Irish were so overwhelmingly kind as we all moved through those next few days.

I sat down on the couch in stunned silence. Finally I went to my bead shop (in Murrells Inlet, SC). A friend who is a flight attendant came in to escape the news coverage that her husband was watching at home. I turned off the radio and the cat and I sat with her the rest of the afternoon.
